Several months ago, a hacker had started to upload photographs to Mathew’s multus instrum. The photos were taken with a class-two artifact and contained images of Mathew in his prime, during the height of the Continental Conflicts. Pictures, especially of that antiquated quality, were very difficult to come by in the new world.

Mathew decided to put an end to the meddling and ceased his use of unsecure channels. He was almost ready to put his qualms behind him, until the night before last, when the messenger reappeared. The heading on the device simply read, did you miss me?

Behind tattered curtains, curious apartment dwellers peeked their heads out from smeared or broken windows to observe the file of foreign yet familiar vehicles. The black personnel carriers growled under cover of the surrounding building shadows that camouflaged their approach down the lightless street.

Ashniin commanded the convoy beneath a large, centralized parking structure, where the other two members of her team were already standing in wait. Tevin Iyuega and Randell Rane were engaged in a serious discussion outside the Razar E2 that Tevin had parked at a convenient distance to allow space for the convoy.

“All right, we’re here, get your head in the game,” Ashniin announced.

Mathew exaggerated a sarcastic smile and glared at his partner with widened eyes.

Ashniin parked a reasonable distance in front of Tevin’s midnight-forest-green cruiser to allow the personnel carriers enough space to reverse in and form a semicircle between them.
